Video Game Reviews

Minis:

Onimusha Warlords (XB1)

I love remasters, and I had a blast with this one (originally on PS2.) How could I not? It’s basically Resident Evil set in feudal Japan. All of the necessities are there: collect pieces of this stone to open this door; oh wait, I need a kog to operate this gear. Not to mention the tank controls (or not if you use the thumb stick) and the sometimes aggravating fixed camera. Character models and a good number backgrounds look nice and crisp, but the opening cinematic is a little rough. The acting is on par with old RE games, as is the length (I had credits rolling in just under 5 hours.) If you’re an RE fan, but wished it had swords and a neat setting, pick this game up.

Dragon Quest XI: Echos of an Elusive Age (PS4)

Buckle up, folks. I spent just over 90 hours in this fantasy RPG, and loved every second of it. The world is huge and beautiful, but not overwhelming. The characters (designed by Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball fame) are charming as hell, and the turn-based combat is perfect. I’m already jonesing for the Definitive Edition out in Dec. of this year.

Borderlands 2 (PS4)

Very good game. I recommend playing it with at least one other player at or around your level, though. I started to get very frustrated playing by myself, so I opted to wait for reinforcements. I would also like a few more options for customizing my character, as well, other than simple skins…and for God’s sake, shut that damn robot up. The shooting feels really good, though, and the loot is addictive as hell.

Far Cry 4

Another really good game. I’m a huge fan of Far Cry 3, and this is that on steroids. The shooting feels good, and the environment is wonderful. The main missions are captivating, as are the side quests. I wish the skill trees were more inviting, though. Overall, there were only a couple of skills that really enticed me. That’s easily overlooked, though, as the gameplay is a ton of fun. Those damned eagles are a menace, however. They must be stopped.

Fullies:

Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (Enhanced Edition)
